  MANGOSTEEN RIND POWDER

Discover Xanthones - The Super Antioxidant

For hundreds of year’s traditional folklore of countries throughout Asia have heralded the many health benefits of the prized Mangosteen fruit. While the fruit has a delicious bitter sweet flavour it is the rind or pericarp that is abundant in a unique class of phytonutrient called Xanthones.

High Potency Xanthone Antioxidants

Xanthones show a high level of antioxidant activity and Mangosteen rind is the most concentrated single source of xanthones found to date. An overwhelming body of research now points to how the dietary intake of foods with antioxidant properties can have a positive and profound impact on human health, performance, and disease prevention.

Independant ORAC tests of NewHealth mangosteen rind shows a massive 56,662 units per 100g - around 10 times prunes, cranberries & blueberries per 100g. ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity) measures the level of antioxidants present in foods.

What do antioxidants do?

Their function is to travel through the body neutralising and reducing free radical damage, leaving your body more balanced and healthier than before. Usually, the body's natural defense systems neutralize free radicals that develop, rendering them harmless. However, environmental assaults on the body, such as UV-radiation, pollutants and alcohol, can overpower the body's ability to neutralize free radicals. Consuming more antioxidants helps provide the body with tools to neutralize harmful free radicals.

Xanthones have been the subject of intense research for a number of decades. They are found in a select number of tropical plants with the most abundant source being the rind or pericarp of the Mangosteen fruit.

Try refreshing and healthy tea...

Mangosteen, Ginger & Rosehip Tea

Try mixing...

Mangosteen Rind:1/2 teaspoon

Ginger tea bag or 1/2 tsp fresh grated

Rosehip teabag or 2 tsp dried shells

Stevia:1 pinch

Lemon: 1 dash

Add boiling water.

Mangosteen Rind Powder is extremely versatile and easy to use.

You can sprinkle it...

  • Onto your favourite cereal, rice or stir fry dish.
  • Mix with yoghurt
  • Stir into fruit juice & vegetable juice

Serving size: 1/4 teaspoon per serving (1/4 tsp= 500mg).

Herbal Tea & Mangosteen Blend: Blend with peppermint or ginger tea for a healthy and refreshing drink.

Ratio: Add 1/4 teaspoon of Mangosteen Rind powder per herbal tea bag or 1 teaspoon (if using loose leaves) eg if making a pot using say 4 herbal teabags or teaspoons; add 1 teaspoon of Mangosteen Rind powder ( 1/4 x 4)

Concentrated Extract : Pour 1 liter of boiling water over 2-3 teaspoons of rind powder. When cool you can add 30ml per serve to juices or herbal tea or any other drink of your choice.

What does it taste like?

The rind of the Mangosteen fruit has a light woody, mild bitter quality. It could be compared with black tea without milk added. When mixed with other foods it does not impinge upon the flavours of your favourite dishes.

Should I add it during or after cooking?

Either way is ok. However because prolonged heat will diminish the antioxidant benefits through evaporation it may be wise to keep its exposure to heat to a minimum. Adding it to an already cooked dish will ensure this does not happen.
